About
A small studio, run by people who like teaching.
Marrowstone opened in a converted front room on Ocello Street. It's still small on purpose.
Our story
Kenneth Porter started tutoring neighborhood students in Hillcrest while working as a high school math instructor. Families kept asking whether he knew someone for chemistry, or essays, or the SAT. In 2019 he opened Marrowstone Academic Studio to answer that question properly: a handful of tutors, one shared standard, one address.
We've grown slowly. Today the studio has nine part-time tutors, most of whom are current or former classroom teachers or graduate students in their subject.
The name comes from a stretch of coastline Kenneth hiked as a kid — slow going, worth it.
