Our approach
Diagnose first. Teach second. Step back third.
A few principles that guide every session at Marrowstone.
Find where it actually breaks
A student who "can't do word problems" often has a reading issue, or a fractions gap from two years ago. We look at real work — homework, quizzes, drafts — before deciding anything.
Explain it more than one way
Tutors are expected to have at least two explanations for every core idea. If the first doesn't land, we don't repeat it louder.
Quiet, independent practice
Part of every session is the student working alone while the tutor watches. That's where we learn the most about what has stuck.
Short, regular notes
Parents get a three-to-five sentence note after each session. Monthly, we send a slightly longer summary and adjust the plan if needed.
